Place on the map
Add a placement
Open the Map page and click the placement button. Select a QR code or poster, then click on the map to drop a pin at the physical location.
- You can search for an address or manually pan and zoom to find the right spot.
- Add an optional note to describe the location (e.g. 'Front window, Main Street').
- Each placement is tied to a specific QR code copy or poster.
Scan to place (mobile)
Place QR codes by scanning them
Open the Scan page on your phone to register placements in the field. Point your camera at a printed QR code and Dottymap will detect it, capture your GPS coordinates, and create a placement automatically.
- The scanner uses your device camera and GPS, so grant both permissions when prompted.
- Once a code is detected, you can label the location (the address is filled in automatically).
- Confirm the placement and it appears on the map immediately.
- A session log keeps track of every code you place during a single outing.
Map markers and status
Understand marker colors
Markers on the map are color-coded to show placement status at a glance.
- Green markers indicate active placements with recent scan activity.
- Red markers indicate stale placements with no scans in the configured period.
- Gray markers indicate removed placements.
Track placement performance
View scan data per placement
Click any marker on the map to see its scan count, placement date, and associated campaign. Compare locations to find your top-performing spots.
- Filter placements by campaign to focus on a specific project.
- Stale placements are flagged automatically when no scans have been recorded recently.
- Use this data to decide which locations deserve more posters or a refresh.
Managing placements
Edit and remove placements
Click a marker to open the placement details. From there you can update the note, move the pin, or mark the placement as removed.
- Marking a placement as removed keeps the data for historical reference.
- You can reactivate a removed placement if the poster goes back up.
