QR Codes

QR codes are the core of Dottymap. Create dynamic QR codes that redirect scanners to any URL, then track every scan with detailed analytics.

Create a QR code

1

Create a new QR code

Go to the QR Codes page and click 'New QR Code'. Choose a campaign, enter a name, and set the destination URL.

  • The destination URL is where scanners will be redirected.
  • You can change the destination URL at any time without reprinting.
  • Each QR code gets a unique short code for easy identification.
Tip: Use descriptive names like 'Menu - Main Entrance' so you can quickly find codes later.

Batch creation

2

Generate multiple QR codes at once

Click 'Batch Generate' on the QR Codes page to create many codes in one go. Upload a CSV or enter details manually.

  • Each row in the CSV maps to one QR code with a name and destination URL.
  • All batch-created codes are added to the campaign you select.
  • Great for events where you need dozens of unique codes quickly.

QR code designer

3

Customize your QR code

Open any QR code and use the designer to change colors, add a logo, or adjust the pattern style.

  • Choose from several dot patterns and corner styles.
  • Set foreground and background colors to match your brand.
  • Preview changes in real time before saving.
Tip: Make sure there is enough contrast between foreground and background for reliable scanning.

A/B testing

4

Test two destinations

Set an alternate destination URL to split traffic between two pages. Dottymap randomly sends scanners to either URL and tracks performance for each.

  • Compare conversion rates between landing pages.
  • View split results in the QR code analytics view.
  • Disable the test at any time to send all traffic to the primary URL.
Tip: Run a test for at least two weeks to get statistically meaningful results.

Scheduling

5

Schedule activation windows

Set a start and end date for a QR code. Outside the scheduled window, scanners see a fallback page instead of the destination.

  • Useful for limited-time promotions or seasonal campaigns.
  • The QR code still works outside the window, it just redirects to the fallback.
Tip: Set your schedule a few hours early to account for timezone differences.

Copies and downloads

6

Generate copies and download files

Create copies of a QR code that share the same destination but have unique short codes. This lets you track which physical location each copy is placed at.

  • Each copy gets its own scan analytics.
  • Download QR codes as PNG or SVG from the detail page.
  • Download all copies as a ZIP file for easy printing.
